Wi-Fi home networking chip developer Celeno raises $16 million in a round led by Cisco

Fabless semiconductor startup company Celeno Communications has closed a strategic $16 million in a Series C investment round led by Cisco Systems. Miven Venture Partners and the company's previous investors, Greylock Partners and Pitango Venture Capital, also participated in this financial round. Total investment in the three-year old company now exceeds $30 million.

Celeno is a provider of semiconductors for multimedia Wi-Fi home networking applications. The company standards-based Wi-Fi System on a Chip enables applications such as IPTV streaming, multi-room DVR content distribution and marrying the PC network with multiple TV screens - with full home coverage and no new wires. Wi-Fi silicon components for multimedia distribution are integrated in devices such as residential gateways, set top boxes and home routers.

"Cisco's expertise in home networking and video distribution brings complementary skills to address service providers' and consumers' needs for robust, carrier-grade IP video distribution solutions in the home,” Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno.

Celeno was founded in 2005 by Rozen, who previously served as SVP of products and technology and VP of engineering at Actelis Networks. The company chairman of the board is Dr. Jozef Straus, who served as the CEO of JDS Uniphase from May 2000 until August 2003.

Yoram Snir who joined Greylock as a partner in 2005 after seven years at Cisco Systems, ia another member of Celeno board. At his last position with Cisco Snir was responsible for its acquisitions, investments and strategic partnerships efforts in Europe, Asia Pacific and Israel.

Celeno headquarters and R&D center are in Ra'anana, Israel. The marketing and business development office is in Silicon Valley, California.

Home networking chip developer Valens Semiconductor raised $7 million

Valens Semiconductor, a developer of a chip that will enable high quality transmission of audio and video in a home networking environment, has raised $7 million from Genesis Partners and Magma Venture Partners.

Valens operates in the area of high definition quality home networking. The company’s chip enables the transmission of uncompressed audio and video at a high resolution to television screens as well as the management and control of different network elements. Valens' product line meets an increasingly growing need in the consumer electronic market, by considerably lowers the costs associated with establishing a home network, simplifies the installation, and extends the functionality of current solutions.

The Israeli startup is headed by Dror Jerushalmi, who was previously Director of Business Development at Saifun, VP Marketing at Emblaze Semiconductors, and VP Business Development at Tioga. Valens' founding team also includes Eyal Massad and Eyran Lida, who were part of the founding team of Mysticom, a developer of high speed communication integrated circuits. Additional team members include former Mysticom and TranSwitch employees.

Enure raised $8 million from Elron and Carmel Ventures; Opens North American sales office

Home network automation product provider Enure Networks has closed venture capital funding round totaling $8 million. Elron Electronic Industries led the investment round and Carmel Ventures participated as a co-investor.

The financial round is supporting the opening of Enure North American sales office in order to strengthen sales efforts with North American service providers seeking to deploy next generation home network-based broadband services. Yaron Naor will head the new Newton, Mass. sales office as Vice President of Sales, North America. Previously Naor served as President and CEO of Mobile Wisdom Inc., a Siemens-Comverse global joint venture he founded.

The new funding will also be used to expand and support sales and marketing activities with European service providers and to enhance product development of Enure's home network management automation product.

"Enure's unique solution is very timely in a market suffering from lost revenue due to excessive technical support," said Mr. Harel Beit-On, General Partner, Carmel Ventures. "Furthermore, the market is set to launch advanced broadband services, such as IPTV and VoIP, making the home network much more complex. We believe that Enure will emerge as the key enabler for the mass adoption of broadband home networks and services."

Founded by David Sayag in 2003, Enure Networks provide patented product capable of completely and intelligently automating the entire broadband home network environment. This includes automating set up, security, configuration and diagnosing and fixing any possible connectivity problem in real time.
