Internet startup SupportSpace secures $4.25 million from BRM Capital and Gemini Israel Funds

Online consumer support startup SupportSpace has closed its first venture capital round of funding, raising $4.25 million from BRM Capital and Gemini Israel Funds. SupportSpace plans to use the funding to further develop its online tech-support architecture and to establish operations in the US market.

“SupportSpace is building the first online community of professionals delivering tech support services,” said Yair Grindlinger, SupportSpace CEO. “Our goal is to introduce a reliable, user-friendly web environment that will make it easy for consumers to get effective, affordable tech support at any time.”

SupportSpace was founded in 2005 by Doron Elgressy, former founder of Security-7 that was acquired by Computer Associates, and Yair Grindlinger, former CEO of Port Authority Technologies. SupportSpace is building a unique service platform designed to address the problems associated with the rapid adoption of new technologies to the home.

Worldwide leader software firm Microsoft to acquire Gteko, a provider of customers support software for the digital home. The acquisition will bolster Microsoft's ongoing efforts to help customers and partners more seamlessly solve PC problems.

"By the end of the decade, Microsoft will significantly expand its operations in the consumer sector, to which end advanced support solutions are required. Gteko's leadership in providing simple solutions to a wide range of PC problems made this a particularly attractive opportunity for Microsoft," said Moshe Lichtman, President of Microsoft Israel R&D Center. "Joining forces with Gteko is yet another building block in the expansion of our technological operations in Israel and it will help enhance our efforts to work together with other elements in the industry to help provide a superior PC experience for our customers."

Gteko solutions help PC and peripherals manufacturers, Internet service providers and software vendors with large technical support centers to improve service quality and end-user satisfaction while also substantially reducing call-center costs. The company support suite is successfully deployed by industry leaders such as HP, Cisco-Linksys and Canon to provide support services to tens of millions of users worldwide.

Founded in 1992, Gteko is headquartered near Tel Aviv Israel, with offices in New York City and Tokyo. The Company most resent funding round was at the end of 2004, when it received an investment of $12 million, co-led by Pitango Venture Capital and the Intel Digital Home Fund.
