Wireless HD semiconductor solutions provider AMIMON secures $10 million

Wireless HD semiconductor solutions provider AMIMON has raised $10 million in a new round of funding led by Stata Venture Partners. The series D round of financing included all significant investors from prior rounds including: Argonaut Private Equity, Cedar Fund, Evergreen Venture Partners, Walden Israel and Motorola Ventures.

AMIMON’s chipset have been shipping in volume embedded in wireless TVs and video accessories by leading TV OEMs selling AMIMON-based products in the US, Europe and Japan. AMIMON’s wireless technology has also enabled breakthrough products in the medical imaging and professional video markets.


“We are experiencing strong acceptance of our newly introduced 1080p/60Hz chipset; the additional funding will allow Amimon to seize this opportunity to solidify our leadership position,” said Dr. Yoav Nissan-Cohen, chairman and CEO of AMIMON. “We will use this round of funding to enhance production and expand our worldwide operations to meet growing global demand for our technology in the consumer electronics market as well as the medical and professional video markets."

UWB chipsets provider Wisair secured $24 million

Wisair, a provider of single-chip based Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB (WUSB) solutions, has secured $24 million.

The financing round was led by four new investors: Susquehanna Growth Equity (SGE), Advent Venture Partners, Bridge Capital Fund of Japan and Yasuda Ventures. Existing Wisair investors also participated, and included Apax Partners, Broadcom, Intel Capital, Vertex, and Zisapel brothers from the RAD group.

This additional funding will enable Wisair to accelerate the release of products with integrated WUSB capabilities to satisfy the burgeoning demand for simple high-speed wireless connectivity in the consumer electronics industry," noted Jonathan Klahr of SGE.

“Wisair's market-ready, single-chip technology is poised to play a major role in the WUSB market, which is now fully set to experience rapid growth over the next few years,” said Martin McNair, general partner at Advent Venture Partners.

GPON semiconductors supplier BroadLight closed $12 million financing round

GPON semiconductors and software supplier BroadLight has closed a $12 million series E financing round led by Benchmark Capital. Benchmark joins BroadLight’s list of investors which includes Azure Capital Partners, Broadcom, Cipio Partners, Delta Ventures, Israel Seed Partners, Motorola Ventures, Star Ventures and Tellabs.

 

“We believe BroadLight has enormous opportunity in the growing GPON fiber market,” said Arad Naveh, general partner at Benchmark Capital Israel. “The company has clearly demonstrated its ability to execute with the development of the widely accepted first generation GPON ONT SoC and 4 port OLT ASIC product lines. Fabless semiconductor company Advasense secures $14 million

Fabless semiconductor company Advasense raised $14 million in a second financial round led by Genesis Partners. VentureTech Alliance, a venture investment fund with a corporate strategic partnership with TSMC, also invested in the round and was joined by existing investors Giza Venture Capital and BlueRun Ventures.

 

Advasense develops advanced CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) products, mainly for the fast growing mobile phone market. Advasense provides an innovative solution to the challenge of blurry and noisy pictures taken by camera phones in low light environments by adding an on chip still image stabilization to its CIS products.

 

Advasense was founded in 2004 by Vladimir Koifman and Nathan Baron. The Company employs approximately 40 engineers in its R&D center in Ra’anana, Israel, and is managed by Naftaly Sharir, who was previously CEO of Emblaze Semiconductor, a leading vendor of multimedia processors for mobile handsets.

Processing solutions developer Lucid raised $12 million from Intel Capital, Genesis Partners and Giza

Lucid Information Technologies, a developer of advanced processing solutions for 3D graphics, has raised $12 million in a financial round led by Intel Capital with the participation of its existing investors, Genesis Partners and Giza Venture Capital. The funds will be used to complete the company's product development and prepare for its product launch later this year.

“Lucid’s solutions focus on enhancing performance for the ever-demanding graphics computing environment," said Steve Gray, senior investment manager at Intel Capital. "This technology will raise the graphics bar in the highly-competitive PC and gaming marketplace."

Lucid develops the first dedicated multi-GPU technology. Semiconductor capital equipment supplier UCLT closes $8.7M financing with Lightspeed Venture

UCLT, an Israeli supplier of yield enhancement tools for the semiconductor manufacturing industry, has completed an $8.7 million round from Lightspeed Venture Partners. Avigdor Willenz and Manuel Alba, the founders of the Israeli fabless semiconductor company, Galileo Technology, led a strategic investment round and became board members of UCLT in 2005.

 

The funds will accelerate the development of the company’s next generation of Critical Dimension (CD) uniformity tools, as well as augment sales and marketing resources to increase sales of its existing field-proven CD correction products.

 

Based in Karmiel, Israel, UCLT provides semiconductor fabrication facilities and supporting mask shops with solutions to correct, improve, and selectively optimize the photolithography masks that are used to imprint an IC design onto wafers in the manufacturing process.

Wisair Secures $20 Million from Apax, Intel, Vertex and Tomen Electronics

Israeli UWB and Wireless USB chipset Company, Wisair, has raised $20 million in its C series of funding. Apax Partners was the lead investor in this funding round, with participation of existing investors Bynet, Intel Capital, RAD Group’s founders, Vertex, and new investor Tomen Electronics.

 

“The continued investment by existing venture capital firms reflects Wisair’s impressive progress - both technologically and business-wise - and demonstrates confidence in the company’s future roadmap,” said Zohar Zisapel, chairman of Wisair’s Board. “The investment will provide Wisair the necessary capital to expand its market activities and continue leading with its UWB chipset and solutions.”

TranSwitch to Acquire Mysticom for $5 million

TranSwitch, a leading provider of high-speed semiconductor solutions for voice, data and video communications, will acquire Israeli start up company Mysticom, for approximately $5 million of TranSwitch Common Stock. Upon the satisfactory achievement of certain revenue objectives and a positive operating cash flow over the next 12 months, TranSwitch will pay up to an additional $10 million in the form of TranSwitch stock or cash, at its option.

 

Mysticom is a developer of high-performance, low-power, multi-Gigabit Ethernet transceivers for the communications industry. The transaction is expected to be completed in TranSwitch's first quarter ending March 31, 2006. Mysticom Ltd. will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of TranSwitch.

 

Mysticom, a fabless semiconductor company, currently designs, develops and markets 10 Gigabit Ethernet transceivers for a variety of applications, including data center, enterprise, server, storage and high definition video.
