Broadcom to acquire switching solution developer Dune Networks for $178 million

Fabless semiconductor company Broadcom will acquire Dune Networks, a semiconductor supplier of networking devices, for $178 million in cash. Dune Networks, a privately-held company that develops switch fabric solutions for data center networking equipment, have raised $53 million so far from Evergreen Venture Partners, USVP, Pitango, Aurum, JVP and Alta Berkeley.

"Dune's massively scalable interconnect fabric, combined with our Ethernet products, augments our portfolio of solutions for data center networking equipment," said Martin Lund, Vice President and General Manager, Broadcom's Network Switching line of business. "This technology is particularly well suited to meet the emerging requirements for cloud computing networks at a large scale, and will enable us to address new market applications for Ethernet in the data center."

"Dune Networks' distributed connection fabric is a complement to Broadcom's existing product suite," said Eyal Dagan, the Founder and CEO of Dune Networks. "Our joint customers will be able to bring to market low cost, high performance data center switching that will enable end users to build next-generation cloud computing networks."

Dune Networks has developed a scalable chipset that supports bandwidth speeds of up to 100Gbps per port and can connect more than ten thousand servers (ports) in a single deployment. Founded in the year 2000, Dune Networks' offices are located in Sunnyvale, California and Yakum, Israel.

Wireless HD semiconductor solutions provider AMIMON has raised $10 million in a new round of funding led by Stata Venture Partners. The series D round of financing included all significant investors from prior rounds including: Argonaut Private Equity, Cedar Fund, Evergreen Venture Partners, Walden Israel and Motorola Ventures.

AMIMON’s chipset have been shipping in volume embedded in wireless TVs and video accessories by leading TV OEMs selling AMIMON-based products in the US, Europe and Japan. AMIMON’s wireless technology has also enabled breakthrough products in the medical imaging and professional video markets.

Wisair, a provider of single-chip based Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB (WUSB) solutions, has secured $24 million.

The financing round was led by four new investors: Susquehanna Growth Equity (SGE), Advent Venture Partners, Bridge Capital Fund of Japan and Yasuda Ventures. Existing Wisair investors also participated, and included Apax Partners, Broadcom, Intel Capital, Vertex, and Zisapel brothers from the RAD group.

This additional funding will enable Wisair to accelerate the release of products with integrated WUSB capabilities to satisfy the burgeoning demand for simple high-speed wireless connectivity in the consumer electronics industry," noted Jonathan Klahr of SGE.

“Wisair's market-ready, single-chip technology is poised to play a major role in the WUSB market, which is now fully set to experience rapid growth over the next few years,” said Martin McNair, general partner at Advent Venture Partners.

GPON semiconductors supplier BroadLight closed $12 million financing round

GPON semiconductors and software supplier BroadLight has closed a $12 million series E financing round led by Benchmark Capital. Benchmark joins BroadLight’s list of investors which includes Azure Capital Partners, Broadcom, Cipio Partners, Delta Ventures, Israel Seed Partners, Motorola Ventures, Star Ventures and Tellabs.

Fabless semiconductor company Advasense secures $14 million

Fabless semiconductor company Advasense raised $14 million in a second financial round led by Genesis Partners. VentureTech Alliance, a venture investment fund with a corporate strategic partnership with TSMC, also invested in the round and was joined by existing investors Giza Venture Capital and BlueRun Ventures.

Advasense develops advanced CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) products, mainly for the fast growing mobile phone market. Advasense provides an innovative solution to the challenge of blurry and noisy pictures taken by camera phones in low light environments by adding an on chip still image stabilization to its CIS products.

Advasense was founded in 2004 by Vladimir Koifman and Nathan Baron. The Company employs approximately 40 engineers in its R&D center in Ra’anana, Israel, and is managed by Naftaly Sharir, who was previously CEO of Emblaze Semiconductor, a leading vendor of multimedia processors for mobile handsets.

Processing solutions developer Lucid raised $12 million from Intel Capital, Genesis Partners and Giza

Lucid Information Technologies, a developer of advanced processing solutions for 3D graphics, has raised $12 million in a financial round led by Intel Capital with the participation of its existing investors, Genesis Partners and Giza Venture Capital. The funds will be used to complete the company's product development and prepare for its product launch later this year.

Semiconductor capital equipment supplier UCLT closes $8.7M financing with Lightspeed Venture

UCLT, an Israeli supplier of yield enhancement tools for the semiconductor manufacturing industry, has completed an $8.7 million round from Lightspeed Venture Partners. Avigdor Willenz and Manuel Alba, the founders of the Israeli fabless semiconductor company, Galileo Technology, led a strategic investment round and became board members of UCLT in 2005.

The funds will accelerate the development of the company’s next generation of Critical Dimension (CD) uniformity tools, as well as augment sales and marketing resources to increase sales of its existing field-proven CD correction products.

Based in Karmiel, Israel, UCLT provides semiconductor fabrication facilities and supporting mask shops with solutions to correct, improve, and selectively optimize the photolithography masks that are used to imprint an IC design onto wafers in the manufacturing process.

Israeli UWB and Wireless USB chipset Company, Wisair, has raised $20 million in its C series of funding. Apax Partners was the lead investor in this funding round, with participation of existing investors Bynet, Intel Capital, RAD Group’s founders, Vertex, and new investor Tomen Electronics.

TranSwitch to Acquire Mysticom for $5 million
